IPL 2025: Franchises Won't Give It Much Time If Form Goes Down, Says Gilchrist

The Indian Premier League (IPL) is the most profitable cricket competition globally. For players who impress franchises, good money tends to follow. Yet, if the performance of a player goes down—be it batting form or bowling rhythm—teams will leave them behind quickly, opines former Australian cricketer Adam Gilchrist.

Gilchrist noted that young Australian cricketer Jake Fraser-McGurk is also facing the same dilemma. Jake, who represented Delhi Capitals in the previous season, impressed everyone. But doubts over his recent performances have raised questions before the new IPL season.

Gilchrist's Advice to Jake Fraser-McGurk

Gilchrist noted that Delhi Capitals has placed their trust in Fraser, and it is important for him to repay this season.

"The Delhi franchise has believed in Jake Fraser-McGurk. He needs to continue that faith by beginning the season well. In the IPL, franchises, owners, and coaches want consistent performances. If players don't deliver for long enough, they won't think twice about making a change," Gilchrist said.

He urged Fraser to capitalize on his previous success at this ground, believing the pitch conditions would favor Fraser's aggressive approach.

Fraser's Performance and Contribution in IPL 2025

  • Jake Fraser made 330 runs in nine matches last season at a staggering strike rate of 234.04, with four half-centuries.
  • His international performance has been disappointing, with only 384 runs in 24 matches.
  • In spite of his recent poor form, Delhi Capitals spent ₹9 crore on him for this year.
  • Fraser will be opening the innings with Faf du Plessis.

World Cup 2026 Prospects

Gilchrist emphasized that Fraser's performance in the IPL 2025 will be the deciding factor if he wants a place in the T20 World Cup 2026 team. With Delhi backing him further, Fraser has the chance to reclaim his best and prove his worth.
