Riyan Parag will be the Rajasthan Royals (RR) captain for the first three games of the IPL 2025 season. While Parag comes in as an interim skipper, regular captain Sanju Samson will also play these matches only as a batter, possibly indicating a position as an impact player.
Samson's Injury and Recovery Update
Sanju Samson revealed this news at an informal team session, which was subsequently posted on RR's social media handles.
"I'm still not fully fit for the next three games," said Samson addressing his teammates.
He further mentioned that RR has a number of talented leaders in the team and is confident that Parag will lead the team through this time.
"For the next three matches, Riyan will be captaining the team. Everyone is expected to back him and stand with him," Samson said.
Samson continues to recover from the right index finger injury he incurred during the latest T20I series against England. After the surgery, the recovery has gone well. Even though Samson cannot resume wicket-keeping responsibilities straightaway, he will represent RR in the IPL captains' conference at Mumbai.
Samson's Fitness and Future Playing
Samson's rehabilitation had been closely watched until the IPL. Though he has improved immensely in his batting fitness, he still feels pains while wicket-keeping.
The recent report from RR is that Samson will face a second fitness test at the NCA after the third match of the team before returning to his position behind the stumps.
