The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has denied reports of financial losses for hosting the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, saying that the tournament fetched a profit of $10 million (PKR 280 crore). While there were some reports indicating PCB incurred losses due to stadium renovations in Lahore, Karachi, and Rawalpindi, the board stated that these reports are false.
Financial Transparency and Sources of Revenue
PCB spokesperson Aamir Mir and Chief Financial Officer Javed Murtaza confirmed that the board did not encounter financial hardships. They stressed that:
- The ICC covered all the costs of the tournament.
- PCB received revenue through ticket sales and elsewhere.
- The board will receive an additional PKR 92 crore from the ICC after the audit.
- The overall revenue was more than expectations.
- PCB remitted PKR 1.20 crore in government taxes.
With this success of finances, PCB will be the third wealthiest cricket board in the world.
Rapid Stadium Renovation and Future Plans
The board stressed that it had renovated the stadiums within a span of only four months. PCB attributed the success to its chairman, Mohsin Naqvi, for spearheading the effort. Due to this, the board has canceled its decision to reduce players' salaries and allowances.
Queries About ICC's Measures
PCB also complained about the absence of a Pakistani representative at the presentation ceremony of the Champions Trophy final. The board has officially written to the ICC seeking an explanation and is waiting for a response.
For the sake of complete transparency, PCB declared that all financial information related to the Champions Trophy will be made available on its official website in the near future.
