Iga Swiatek Faces Spectator Harassment, Receives Additional Security At Miami Open

Increased Security for Iga Swiatek

Poland's world number 2, Iga Swiatek, has received enhanced security following an incident where a spectator verbally harassed her during a practice session. According to international media reports, the individual used obscene language, prompting authorities to assign additional security personnel to her at the Miami Open.

Last month, British player Emma Raducanu experienced a similar situation at the Dubai Open. Following Iga's recent encounter, officials took immediate action to ensure her safety.

Tournament Organizers Respond to the Incident

“We informed the tournament organizers about this issue, and they promptly increased security measures for our player. Ensuring the safety of athletes is a top priority. We continuously work to address these concerns,” said an Iga Swiatek spokesperson.

The spokesperson further emphasized that inappropriate comments from spectators during practice and matches can cause significant anxiety and discomfort for players. In response, the authorities have implemented preventive measures.

The Women's Tennis Association (WTA) has not issued a statement on the matter but has instructed tournament organizers to investigate the incident.
