Shreyas Iyer, who had been out of the team for some time due to BCCI’s discontent, has made significant progress over the past year, according to former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly. Iyer delivered an exceptional performance in the recent match against Gujarat Titans, scoring 97 runs and leading the Punjab team to victory.
Ganguly had this to say about X, "Shreyas Iyer has developed really well in the last year. He is ready to play all three formats now. Overcoming past issues and perfecting his game to this extent is phenomenal."
Iyer Sets Sights on a Century in the Next Game
Iyer came close to a century against Gujarat, staying on 97 runs without being dismissed. Post-match, he firmly stated his intent to score a century in the next match.
"Our intention was to post a good overall against Gujarat Titans as their batting order is extremely strong. IPL is unpredictable until the eleventh hour. I informed Shashank Singh that I would play big shots myself, without any concern for my hundred. I will take it in the subsequent match," Iyer said.
Compliments for Shashank Singh's Aggressive Batting
Iyer also complimented Shashank Singh's aggressive batting.
"Your last year's batting style motivated me a lot. It boosted me with a lot of confidence. The manner in which you asserted yourself from the third ball itself and scored 44 runs was really great. I hope that you keep continuing this aggressive mindset in the coming times," said Iyer to Shashank.
Iyer's Recent Cricket Journey
Iyer had his last international T20 match in December 2023, when he scored a half-century. He missed the short-format World Cup despite that, but he led Kolkata Knight Riders during the IPL. KKR did not re-sign him, though. Eventually, the Punjab franchise bought him for a record ₹26.75 crores, and he became the most valuable player of the IPL ever.
