IPL 2025 - Ashwin Proposes 'Super Ball' Award For Bowlers In High-Scoring Matches

High-Scoring Matches Characterize IPL 2025

The season of IPL 2025 has already seen several high-scoring games, with sides going past the 230-run mark in three matches in the first week. Trends were seen like this even last year, and now even a 200-run score in T20 cricket no longer ensures a win.

CSK's veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin opined about the growing batters' dominance and proposed a new award to honor bowlers who perform exceptionally in batting-friendly conditions.

Ashwin proposes 'Super Ball' award

Ashwin explained that IPL matches incorporate several awards and approximately ten awards are given in the post-match ceremony. There are awards handed out to each team's players, such as awards for being a Super Striker, a Super Fours, or a Super Sixes. But, according to him, bowlers do not have any individual award unless they also take home the Player of the Match award.

"If a bowler bowls an out-of-the-ordinary ball or an over of quality, they must also be recognized. I recall receiving an award for the ball that was the quickest once, despite it being hit for a six. It would be wonderful to start a 'Super Ball' award for the delivery that is truly testing the batter," Ashwin proposed.

Vaishakh - The True Match Winner in Punjab vs Gujarat Game

Ashwin also discussed the Punjab vs Gujarat match in which Shreyas Iyer (97)* was awarded Player of the Match. Though giving credit to Iyer's match-turning innings, Ashwin believed Vijaykumar Vaishakh was the actual game-changer.

"Vaishakh had a key role in giving away only ten runs in his initial two overs, so effectively limiting Gujarat's score. At 169/2 in 15 overs, when Gujarat were, Vaishakh's spell allowed Punjab to take charge again. Although Shreyas had a superb knock, Vaishakh played an equally crucial role in stopping Gujarat from gaining the upper hand. That's why I hold him as the most valuable player," Ashwin clarified.
