MS Dhoni's Influence On CSK: Ambati Rayudu's Perspective

MS Dhoni has been the pillar of Chennai Super Kings (CSK), and his presence is one of the reasons why the team has such a huge fan base. Several fans go to matches just to see him play. Former cricketer Ambati Rayudu recently spoke about how the Dhoni mania impacts new players in CSK and the pressure it puts on them. He pointed out that the majority of CSK fans became fans because of Dhoni in the first place.

Dhoni’s Impact on New Players

According to Rayudu, new players joining CSK often struggle to deal with the overwhelming support Dhoni receives. He stated:

"It is a bit difficult for fresh players in CSK initially. The crowd turns up in thousands for Dhoni, and they support him endlessly. At times, they also wish batters to get dismissed early so that Dhoni will come to the crease. That is how he is regarded as 'Thala' (leader). He has a humongous effect on CSK, and spectators have been attracted to the side due to his efforts."

A Unique Fan Culture

Rayudu pointed out that CSK has thrived on Dhoni’s popularity since the inception of the IPL. However, he also acknowledged that many players hesitate to talk about the challenges this brings.

“CSK has been built around Dhoni’s legacy. Many players may not openly admit it, but the Dhoni craze influences team dynamics. Some fans even wish for their team’s batters to get out just to see Dhoni at the crease. This is rare in cricket. While it provides a great platform for other players to showcase their talent, it also creates immense pressure.”

CSK’s Future After Dhoni

Rayudu also touched upon the age-old issue of Dhoni's retirement and how CSK will have to look for a player who can replace his influence.

"Dhoni's retirement has always been a difficult subject. CSK has to find another player who can get fans to the ground at this level. Currently, the stands get filled due to Dhoni. I don't believe there is another cricketer who can equal his influence."

As the IPL goes on, the discussion regarding CSK's future in the absence of Dhoni is a major topic of debate, with fans and pundits keenly observing how the team adapts beyond its great leader.
