Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) staged a surprise win over Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at Chepauk, their first IPL 2025 defeat. RCB's second consecutive win moved them to the top of the points table with the win. CSK skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad kept a calm head with the outcome, observing that the 50-run loss was not such a huge margin.
Gaikwad: "We Gave Away Extra Runs"
Gaikwad welcomed the challenge his team was facing, and he said their strategy was to limit RCB to 170 runs.
- Tough Pitch Conditions: "Batting here is tough. We also had issues with fielding."
- Extra Runs Conceded: "We gave away 20 additional runs, which made the chase more difficult."
- Challenges in Powerplay: "Fighting at the top while facing the new ball was not easy, and we had to play adventurously."
All that aside, Gaikwad was upbeat:
"Losing by 50 runs is not a big margin. Dropped catches and conceding boundaries put pressure on our bowlers. We did not bat or bowl well, but we will prepare hard for the next game in Guwahati. Fielding is the essence of IPL, and we need to improve."
RCB Captain Rajat Patidar: "Our Target Was Achievable"
RCB's acting captain Rajat Patidar was impressed with the effort of his team.
- Tough Pitch: "Batting conditions were tough, with changes in ball speed."
- Target Strategy: "We aimed for 200 runs and nearly reached that."
- Pivotal Contributions: "Josh Hazlewood and Yash contributed at the right moment, ensuring the win."
Patidar, who scored a half-century, was awarded the Player of the Match for his good performance.
Looking Ahead
As RCB continues its momentum and CSK wants to bounce back, the remaining games hold high hopes of exciting rivalry. The second game at Guwahati will prove crucial for both the teams as they perfect their approach.
