BCCI Meeting Postponed: News On Central Contracts And Test Captaincy

The BCCI has been allegedly postponed from having its planned meeting in Guwahati. The meeting would have featured central personalities like head coach Gautam Gambhir, chief selector Ajit Agarkar, and BCCI secretary Devjit Saikia. The talks would have centered around central contracts as well as planning for the forthcoming England tour. However, reports indicate that the meeting has been moved to a later date, though the exact schedule remains unclear. It is believed that Gambhir's absence, as he is currently abroad with his family, may have contributed to the decision.

Key Discussions: Rohit & Kohli’s Test Future

One of the key items on the agenda for the BCCI will be what the future holds for Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in Tests. Gambhir and Agarkar will discuss if these veteran players should play in the longer version and who could become the new Test skipper. The extension of Rohit, Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, and Ravindra Jadeja to the A+ category of central contracts will also be discussed.

Jadeja, who has retired from T20Is recently after the T20 World Cup, has further fuelled speculation around the eligibility for an A+ contract. It is being suggested that only playing members in all formats should be eligible, and others are opining that there will be no changes made for now. With the England Test series coming up in June, this debate takes on added significance, as does team selection and preparation planning.

Varun Chakravarthy's Probable Inclusion

Varun Chakravarthy, who did well in the Champions Trophy, will likely get a central contract from the BCCI. Former contract retainers Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan, who had lost their contracts earlier, will also likely be restored. Meanwhile, some players may get elevations within the contract hierarchy.

The BCCI’s decisions in the coming weeks will significantly impact India’s squad structure and leadership dynamics as they prepare for crucial international fixtures.
