Fleming Explains Dhoni’s Lower Batting Order
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) coach Stephen Fleming has addressed concerns regarding MS Dhoni’s late entry in the batting order. He clarified that Dhoni’s knee problem prevents him from running at full speed and sustaining long batting sessions.
Batting Position Based on Match Situation
Fleming stated that Dhoni’s position in the lineup is determined by the match situation. In the recent match against Royal Challengers Bangalore, he batted at number 9, whereas in the game against Rajasthan Royals, he came in at number 7 when CSK needed 54 runs off 25 balls. He managed to score 16 runs in 11 balls, but CSK fell short by six runs.
Dhoni’s Role Remains Crucial
Fleming acknowledged that Dhoni’s body is not as fit as before, but he still plays a vital role in the team. "He is moving well, but he cannot run at full speed for ten overs. He will assess his contribution accordingly. If the match is in the balance, he will bat earlier. Otherwise, he will allow other players to step up," Fleming said.
Leadership and Wicketkeeping Are Key
Even with his physical limitations, Dhoni is still a must-have player for CSK. Fleming highlighted that the leadership and wicketkeeping capabilities of Dhoni are very essential to the team's success.
