Young cricketer Yashasvi Jaiswal has made an unexpected move in his domestic cricketing career. After playing for Mumbai for a few seasons, he now wishes to leave the team. Jaiswal has formally written to the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA), seeking a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to move to Goa. The Mumbai team management is reported to have granted his demand.
MCA Confirms Jaiswal's Exit
An MCA official, in an interview with PTI on Wednesday, recognized the suddenness of Jaiswal's action. "It is a shocking move, and there might be different reasons behind his action. We have granted his application and given him clearance," the official said. Jaiswal stated in his letter that personal grounds were the reasons behind him joining a new team. He will play for Goa from the 2025-26 season.
Third Mumbai Player to Join Goa
Jaiswal is the third prominent player of recent times to exit Mumbai for Goa. Before that, in the 2022-23 season, cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar's son Arjun Tendulkar and cricketer Siddhesh Lad too had made a similar transition. Goa Cricket Association (GCA) Secretary Shamba Desai sounded thrilled after the latest news, saying he is glad to see Jaiswal join their team. Desai also dropped hints of Jaiswal leading the Goa team when he is not playing national duty.
Jaiswal's Domestic Cricket Career
Jaiswal started his domestic cricket career with Mumbai in 2019 and has played 63 matches in all formats. His stats include:
- Ranji Trophy: 10 matches, 863 runs, four centuries, and two half-centuries.
- List A Cricket: 25 matches.
- T20 Format: 28 matches.
Earlier, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) ordered national team players to play domestic cricket. Under this order, Jaiswal played a game against Jammu and Kashmir in January but was unable to make much of an impact, scoring only 4 and 26 runs.
His transition to Goa is a new part of his career, with hopes that he will be instrumental in building the team.
