Digvesh Rathi's Signature Celebration: The Story Behind The Notebook Gesture

Lucknow Super Giants’ bowler Digvesh Rathi has caught fans’ attention not just with his bowling but also his unique wicket celebration. After dismissing a batter, Rathi mimics signing a notebook — a gesture that sparked widespread discussion during the IPL 2025 season.

This act led to disciplinary action. Rathi was fined ₹12 lakhs after his first such celebration. A second similar incident saw him lose 50% of his match fee and receive three demerit points on his record.

Digvesh Rathi Explains His Notebook Celebration

Ahead of Lucknow’s upcoming match against Kolkata Knight Riders, KKR shared a video of a light-hearted chat involving Rathi, Rishabh Pant, Sunil Narine, and Nicholas Pooran. In the clip, Rathi gave insight into the reason behind his celebration.

Rathi has often credited Sunil Narine as his bowling mentor. Interestingly, Nicholas Pooran played a key role in introducing Rathi to Narine. During the conversation, Pooran jokingly questioned Rathi, asking why he celebrates when Narine, his mentor, does not.

Inspired by Virat Kohli’s Signature Gesture

Responding with a smile, Rathi said, “I am from Delhi.” He referenced Indian star Virat Kohli, who also hails from Delhi and once used a similar 'signature' celebration in a match against the West Indies. Rathi seemed to suggest that he is following Kohli’s style, adding a local connection to his celebratory move.

The group shared a laugh at his explanation. Pant added a humorous twist by saying, “Rathi is a ticket collector. Narine is a wicket collector. So, Digvesh will be writing cheques.”

KKR Shares the Viral Moment

KKR posted the video on their social media with the caption: “Finally met your idol cricketer,” highlighting the fun interaction between the players.
