Priyansh Arya Reflects On Missed Chance To Meet Dhoni Despite Century In IPL Match

Upcoming Punjab Batsman Wows with Century Against Chennai

Rising Indian cricket star Priyansh Arya made history by scoring a century in only his fourth match of the IPL. Playing for Punjab, he gave a breathtaking performance against Chennai, making the headlines with his rapid century. Yet, while the game remained in memory, Arya felt let down for not being able to interact with cricket icon MS Dhoni.

After the game, Arya mentioned that he wished to speak with Dhoni, who was standing in as a wicketkeeper in the match. Unfortunately, by the time Arya finished speaking after the match, Dhoni had already left the ground.

"I am blessed to play against a player like Dhoni. It is not common for many players. Having him as stumper behind adds pressure, and bowling against bowlers like Ashwin makes it even more challenging. Scoring a century in such circumstances was special. I had wished to meet Dhoni sir post-match but lost the opportunity," Arya stated.

Boost to Confidence from Ricky Ponting and Shreyas Iyer

Punjab's coach Ricky Ponting has appreciated team captain Shreyas Iyer for standing by Arya following a poor performance in an earlier match. Arya remembered getting out on the first ball of the match prior to the Chennai game but said that both Ponting and Iyer had been words of encouragement rather than criticism.

A Century That Made Headlines

The April 8 match proved to be a turning point for Arya. Though Punjab had lost five wickets in the first eight overs, Arya held his ground. He blasted a 100 in only 39 balls, taking his team to a phenomenal win. His play became instantaneously popular, and his name became well-known all over.
