Ganguly Back as ICC Cricket Committee Head
Sourav Ganguly, ex-Indian cricket team captain, has been reappointed as chairman of the ICC Men's Cricket Committee. The move was made final at the ICC's annual general meeting in Dubai.
Ganguly initially assumed this position in 2021, succeeding Anil Kumble. He still has an important role to play in international cricket matters. VVS Laxman, yet another retired Indian cricketer, will continue to be part of the committee.
Other Committee Members
The committee has international representation:
- Desmond Haynes from West Indies
- Hamid Hasan from Afghanistan
- Temba Bavuma from South Africa
- Jonathan Trott from England
The ICC Women's Committee is also headed by New Zealand's Catherine Campbell. There are also members Avril Fahey from Australia and Moseki from South Africa.
ICC Task Force for Afghan Women Cricketers
The ICC has announced the formation of a specialized task force for Afghan women cricketers. The team would provide support to female players suffering due to the Taliban regime in Afghanistan, who have limited the participation of women in playing cricket.
Since the change of government, most Afghan female cricketers have emigrated. A few of them have applied for asylum in countries such as Australia and are actively playing matches there. The new task force will assist in giving these women a chance to play cricket at a professional level.
The task force will work very closely with the cricket associations of India, Australia, and England to create support mechanisms for these displaced sports persons.
