Following the game, Shreyas Iyer's sister Shrestha Iyer asserted that she had been trolled on social media because of her seeming endorsement of her brother and his team. The trolls confronted her in public with a stinging retort.

Shrestha posted on social media:
"It's unfortunate to see some people insulting relatives for supporting players. Why would you stoop so low? The attitude of people who insult me is degrading and exposing. I've watched numerous matches live. Meanwhile, you remain behind screens trolling others. Facts obviously aren't your concern."
Continued Support for Her Brother
In a subsequent post, she wrote:
"Criticism will never discourage me from supporting my brother or his team. Win or lose, I am a loyalist. Sarcastic remarks on the internet don't count. Punjab didn't play this time—losses are part of sports. Rather than spreading hate, perhaps make a donation. Before you criticize someone for doing something you haven't even tried, think twice."
