Animesh Kujur Breaks National 200m Record At Federation Cup

Record-breaking dash creates history at senior athletics event

Odisha's Animesh Kujur gave a historic performance at the National Federation Cup Senior Athletics Championships, establishing a new national record in the men's 200m final. The 21-year-old recorded an incredible 20.40 seconds, breaking the old record of 20.52 seconds set by Amlan Borgohain since 2022. Not only did this earn him the gold medal but also put his timing as the fastest in Asia this year.

Overpowering Finish in 200m Sprint Final

In a fiercely contested 200m final, Animesh Kujur was in command from beginning to end, combining explosive speed and control. His winning time of 20.40 seconds rewrote the book on Indian athletics, setting a new standard that raised the country's national records. His show over Tamil Nadu's Rahul Kumar, who settled for silver in 20.85 seconds, and Karnataka's Manikantha, who claimed bronze in 20.91 seconds, saw him claim a commanding victory.

Kujur's performance is his third big gold medal of the season. In the National Games earlier this year, he clocked 20.58 seconds over 200m in Uttarakhand and then came back with a 20.63-second finish at the Indian Open Athletics in Chennai. Both efforts had suggested that he was on the upswing, but the Federation Cup effort has now put him in the league of the best both nationally and in the continent.

Triple Jump and High Jump Records Also Fall

Excellent performances in field events were seen in the competition as well. Praveen Chitravel gave a awe-inspiring display in the triple jump for men, reaching an impressive 17.37 meters. Not only did he gain the gold medal but also beat his own previous personal best record of 17.22 meters, making him India's greatest triple jumper to date.

In the women's high jump, Shailesh Singh jumped 6.64 meters to establish a new meet record. Her jump broke the long-standing record of 6.59 meters held by Anju George since 2002. Singh's effort was another chapter in the record-breaking day at the Federation Cup.
