Venkatesh Iyer Struggles Despite Mass Auction Price
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) player Venkatesh Iyer has scored as little as 135 runs in 8 matches in the IPL 2025 season. Though he was bought at an enormous amount of Rs. 23.75 crore in the mega auction, the performance of Iyer has been disappointing. Iyer's best score in the season was 60 runs against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Former cricketer RP Singh expressed his views regarding Iyer's performance. As per him, players bought at a high price are under additional pressure. Singh added that Iyer, who might have been considered as the future captain, is now struggling to make contributions. He added that KKR might have made wrong choices in the auction, especially by losing a captain who led the team to success before and is now leading Punjab Kings.
RP Singh suggested KKR to think about assigning a new role to Iyer. Singh suggested promoting Iyer as an opener with Sunil Narine, which might help improve his confidence and level of performance. Singh also pointed out that while Iyer has been provided with enough opportunities, it is also important for the player himself to work back into form.
Chahal's Performance Praised by Punjab Kings' Coach
Punjab Kings' bowling coach Sunil Joshi commended Yuzvendra Chahal and called him a crucial player. According to Joshi, Chahal, the leading wicket-taker in IPL history, never disappoints in big-buck games and does not need to prove himself time and time again. He added that players like Chahal need a little confidence, which is enough for them to play their best.
Joshi also highlighted Shreyas Iyer's consistency of performance in the season. Shreyas has been well set since the Champions Trophy and is ready to face challenges all through the season of IPL 2025 playing for Kolkata for the first time this year.
