Resuming into the New Year, Microsoft resumed lay-offs too. The cause behind the phenomenon among different companies is attributed to economic uncertainty, among other preferences, like AI development, but Microsoft continues to trim down its employees, and so the firm has continued to send off a few employees within different departments.
Microsoft Official Statement
A Microsoft spokesperson addressed the situation, emphasizing the company’s focus on performance and continuous improvement:
"We encourage employees who excel at Microsoft. We always support those striving to learn and grow. Appropriate actions will be taken against those who fail to meet performance standards."
The spokesperson added that these layoffs are part of a broader strategy to enhance productivity and retain high-performing talent. The decision will reportedly affect less than 1% of Microsoft’s total workforce.
Former Microsoft Layoffs
This is not the first round of layoff at Microsoft. The company down-sized its staff by about 10,000 employees last year in 2023, which was about 5% of the global team size. Almost 2,000 employees in the gaming division have been laid off last year as well.
Industry-wide Layoff Predictions
Experts now believe that similar sorts of cuts coming in other world leaders, specially in Google and Microsoft in the year ahead. Economic compulsions as well as the change in policy also appear to force these cuts-just overhauling priorities in labor games in this sector of technology business.
