The quick commerce industry in India is witnessing an unprecedented surge in demand for blue-collar jobs as per a report by recruitment platform Indeed. According to the report, the sector will require approximately 24 lakh blue-collar workers by 2027 to meet growing operational needs.

Growing Demand for Blue-Collar Workers

According to Shashi Kumar, sales head at Indeed India, quick commerce firms have hired more than 40,000 people in the last quarter. Recruitment has grown rapidly in step with the e-commerce transaction volumes during the festive season. The sector now has more blue-collar jobs - be it delivery boys and girls, retail staff, and so on. "For most of these, the on-ground qualification would supersede academic qualifications," said Kumar.

The rapid commerce industry in India is booming, which leads to a tremendous surge in the hiring of blue-collar employees as the consumer market is expanding," said Kumar while speaking to PTI. "With this sector's growth, the competition to hire skilled and semi-skilled employees will rise further. Employees will look to recruit people who have an aptitude to adapt to the tech-led workplace.".

Salaries and City-Wise Trends

Indeed's survey reported that the average monthly salary of blue-collar employees in the quick commerce sector is ₹22,600. Recruitment activities are concentrated in metropolitan cities like Chennai, Pune, Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Delhi. However, the sector's expansion is also creating opportunities in Tier 2 cities like Chandigarh and Ahmedabad, demonstrating its nationwide impact.

Future Outlook

As the quick commerce sector grows, it will apparently be highly dependent on blue-collar workers. There would be a reformation in employment as well as how companies compete for talent in the increasingly dynamic and technology-driven market.
