Consecutive Test series defeats by team India have created an unspoken embarrassment for them since their new head coach is Gautam Gambhir. This is where BCCI decided to get stringent to restructure and streamline the focus back to the cricketing arena. For this, they proposed a 10-point policy which was suggested to solve issues regarding fitness, commitment, and discipline. Key points are briefed below:

Key Points of BCCI’s 10-Point Policy

1. Restrictions on Endorsements

  • Players are prohibited from engaging in personal shooting or endorsements during series tours.
  • This ensures players remain fully focused on their matches.

2. Limited Family Access

  • For overseas tours lasting over 45 days, players can spend only two weeks with their families.
  • For shorter tours, family visits are restricted to just one week.

3. Team Travel Mandate

  • They must travel as a team and not on their individual arrangement.
  • Family members traveling with them need prior permission.
  • This helps to bring more bonding among teammates.

4. Domestic Cricket Involvement is Compulsory

  • For national selection, a player must be involved in domestic cricket.
  • They can get an exemption only on some valid grounds and this needs approval by the board.

5. Limitations of Personal Staff

  • The board will only allow them to have personal staff if the board approves.

6. Luggage Weight Limits

  • The luggage weight limit for a player is now raised up to 150 kg.
  • Any excess luggage will incur a surcharge which the player needs to pay.

7. Common Transportation for Training

  • Players must travel in the same bus during training periods.

8. Compulsory Attendance at BCCI Events

  • All players are obligated to attend the events and meetings set by the BCCI.
  • This seeks to promote greater coordination and assistance in the development of cricket in India.

9. Travel Post Match

  • Travel arrangements: The cricketers need to travel as a team rather than leaving from individual destinations post the match or series.

10. Sharing rooms

  • The accommodation for star players cannot be single occupancy anymore.
  • Accommodation to be shared among other team players. Exceptions allowed for family visitation

Implications of not complying

  • Barring participation in matches under national or IPL, when not complying to the rules.
  • Seeking permissions ahead of time is required before opting out from any of these regulations.

This reformative policy shows the intent of BCCI to further strengthen Indian cricket through discipline, accountability, and unity.
