The Polavaram Project today marked a high point with commencement of the most critical component under the project-Diaphragm walls. The much-awaited construction at this site commences with contractor's formalized work.

Highlights of the Constructions of the Diaphragm Walls

  • Estimated Dimensions:

These new diaphragm walls were to be measured 1.396 km of length and constructed 1.5 meters thickness.

  • Location:

It was aimed to be executed underground along with the river-flow path.

New Structures Above the Current Wall

A new wall is built 6 meters taller than the existing diaphragm wall. Halfway during the concreting process, the government would start its earth-cum-rock fill dam constructed within and parallel to the new wall.

Budget and Investment

The Andhra Pradesh government has sanctioned Rs 990 crore for diaphragm wall construction. The investment is one of the steps to be taken to push forward the overall progress of the Polavaram Project.
