'Avatar: Fire and Ash' is an upcoming American epic science fiction film co-produced, co-edited, co-written, and directed by James Cameron. Produced by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, it is a sequel to Avatar: The Way of Water (2022) as well as the third installment of the Avatar film series.

Jon Landau produced the movie with Cameron. The script writers were Rick Jaffa, Amanda Silver, Josh Friedman, Shane Salerno, and Cameron. Returnees are Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Joel David Moore, CCH Pounder, and Giovanni Ribisi. New comers include David Thewlis and Oona Chaplin.

Cameron, who had said in 2006 that he might make sequels to Avatar (2009) if it were a hit, announced the first two of those sequels in 2010, shortly after the monumental success of the first film, with the then-untitled Avatar 3 targeting a 2015 release. However, the inclusion of two more sequels (four in total), and the development of new technology required to film performance capture scenes underwater, a feat never accomplished before, led to significant delays to allow the crew more time to work on the writing, pre-production, and visual effects. Avatar: Fire and Ash began filming concurrently with Avatar: The Way of Water in New Zealand on September 25, 2017; the shoot wrapped in late December 2020, three years later.

The movie is set to hit the theaters with nine delays; the last delay was on June 13, 2023, and is scheduled for December 19, 2025. Two more sequels, Avatar 4 and Avatar 5, are in different stages of production and will be released in 2029 and 2031, respectively.
