A Bengaluru special court ordered the handing over of various assets owned by late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa to the Tamil Nadu government. The Karnataka officials have been asked by Judge H.A. Mohan to complete the hand-over process by February 14 and 15.

Assets Owned by Jayalalithaa

The Karnataka government will hand over multiple assets comprising:

  • Land amounting to 1,562 acres
  • 27 kg of gold and diamond jewellery
  • More than 10,000 sarees
  • More than 750 pairs of sandals
  • Watches and other valuables

Court Decision on Ownership

In a recent order, the Karnataka High Court rejected a plea filed by J. Deepak and J. Deepa who claim to be Jayalalithaa's legal heirs. The court had agreed with the Tamil Nadu government over the properties.

Current Valuation of the Assets

These had been valued by the Tamil Nadu government at around ₹913 crore nearly a decade ago. That value has appreciating markets reflected in the higher current estimate for their worth more than ₹4,000 crore.
