Former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh has heaped praise on young Team India batter Abhishek Sharma, comparing him to legendary opener Virender Sehwag. Harbhajan expressed confidence that Abhishek will soon make his way into Test cricket, bringing his aggressive style to the longer format.

While playing for India in the fifth T20I against England, Abhishek showed a breath-taking knock: 135 runs in just 54 balls, and there were 7 fours and 13 sixes. He scored his half-century in just 17 balls, while reaching his century in 35 balls, which established a record for the most sixes and a new high in a single Indian's innings in T20Is. Since then, appreciation has been gushing in for the Punjab cricketer.

Harbhajan Sees a Future Test Star in Abhishek

Harbhajan Singh believes Abhishek has the skill to shine even in Test cricket. "We will soon see Abhishek Sharma in the Test team. He can dominate in red-ball cricket, just like he does in T20s. He is currently leading Punjab in the Ranji Trophy and has the ability to change the course of a match on his own," said Harbhajan.

Drawing comparisons with the past and the present greats, he added, "Virender Sehwag, Viv Richards, and now Travis Head have played with this level of aggression. Players like Abhishek will take the game forward. Team India needs a cricketer like Sehwag, someone who can destroy the opposition in Tests. Abhishek has that potential and will soon get his opportunity."

Batting star with a hidden talent in bowling

While Abhishek has surely impressed with batting, he was also seen throwing glimpses of his spin bowling skills. This was in the fifth T20I where besides smashing a ton, he snatched two wickets in just one over, and Harbhajan pointed to the fact that there is something of a leg spinner hidden deep inside him who should be surfaced.

"Every time I meet Abhishek, I talk to him about bowling. He loves batting and works hard at it, but he needs to work harder at bowling. He has all the qualities to be a good left-arm spinner. If he does that, that will add another dimension to his game," said Harbhajan.

With his explosive batting and potential as a bowler, Abhishek Sharma is emerging as a promising all-rounder. As Harbhajan and other cricket experts believe, his future in Indian cricket looks incredibly bright.
