Polling for the Delhi Assembly elections is going on peacefully in the national capital. Voting began at 7 AM. Several personalities, including President Droupadi Murmu, cast their votes amongst the early ones. Over 1.56 crore eligible voters will exercise their franchise till polling closes at 6 PM.
Polling across 70 assembly seats
All 70 assembly constituencies will be voting in one phase. It is a straight three-cornered contest here between Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and Congress as all these three are in a race for attention of voters. With safety factor in consideration and to prevent any kind of disorder, as many as 30,000 policemen and 220 companies of paramilitary force were present at each poll station.
Prominent Personalities Who Voted
Some other significant political personalities have voted today:
- President Droupadi Murmu has cast her vote at a polling station in Rashtrapati Bhavan Estate.
- Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi cast his vote at Nirman Bhavan.
- External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar along with his wife has cast his vote at Tughlaq Crescent.
- Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, accompanied by his wife Lakshmi Puri, and family members voted at Anand Niketan.
- BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj, the daughter of late leader Sushma Swaraj, cast her vote at Janpath.
- Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi and Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi voted at K. Kamraj Lane.
- Senior AAP leader Manish Sisodia and his wife, Seema Sisodia, voted at the New Delhi Assembly constituency.
- Delhi Governor Vinay Kumar Saxena cast his vote at Raj Niwas Marg, whereas Chief Minister Atishi voted at Kalkaji.
