Zomato's CEO, Deepinder Goyal, recently updated the masses on the extremely publicized recruitment for the role of Chief of Staff at the food delivery giant. After the announcement of the job, the company received 18,000+ applications. Goyal shared the outcome on social media where he revealed that the 30 candidates made it to be placed; out of which, 18 have already been placed in senior positions within Zomato and its subsidiary, Blinkit.

In his post, Goyal said no one was asked to pay for the opportunity to work at Zomato as was reported in some media outlets. He said the job offers were legit, as well as the salary and allowances for the chosen candidates-a feat that is in line with their work. "We have carefully filtered the applications and selected 150 people.". Out of that, we have hired 30. 18 of them have already reported to the senior ranks within the Zomato group, and we are compensating them as per the responsibility they are handling, Goyal explained.

The earlier controversy that had erupted with the ₹20 lakh payment, Goyal confirmed that the payment was not a condition for joining but a filtering measure for the applicants. He further added that all those who could afford to pay the fee were later excluded from consideration. He further clarified that the recruitment process was current, and Zomato continues scouring the remaining applicants in its pool for qualified people to serve there. However, he admitted that the process may take a little longer than expected.

The recruitment process was also quite unusual in nature, where the candidates were reportedly said to repay ₹20 lakh if selected. Widespread criticism raised due to this made Goyal clarify that there was an initial screening process that involved payment in terms of ₹20 lakh, but it never came as a means of not hiring someone holding the right skills.
