Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu instructed the officials of the energy department to take steps that would help in reducing the expenditure on the purchase of electricity. He laid emphasis on using high technology for estimating the demand for electricity precisely. He reviewed the preparedness of the energy department for the summer season by interacting with officials at the Secretariat.
Levelling up of Demand Forecasting with AI
The Chief Minister mentioned that the energy department was using artificial intelligence to predict the demand for electricity based on the weather. He suggested that AI systems be interfaced with the soil moisture level and groundwater details to make predictions more accurate for agricultural power supply.
Power outages reduced and efficiency improved
CM Chandrababu noted that the outages should be reduced at least throughout the state. He told that the duties of staff be localized so that he can monitor and realize the problems in that particular area. He also directed finding out the issue behind the continuous upcoming outages. He further proposed conducting public surveys of satisfaction of electricity services and rating of staff.
To further reduce DISCOM supply losses, the CM advised installing meters at substations and feeder levels and conducting comprehensive energy audits. However, he explicitly stated that meters should not be installed for agricultural connections. He also suggested using drones to detect and address high supply losses in specific feeder areas.
Proposal for Thermal Plant in Talcher, Odisha
The Chief Minister presented the proposal for setting up a thermal power plant in Talcher, Odisha, in collaboration with GENCO and Coal India. He stated that the transportation cost of coal would increase manifold if plants were set up in places like Srikakulam. To reduce this, he suggested setting up thermal power plants near pitheads. In addition, he promoted the adoption of solar power projects and identified PSPs and battery storage facilities as strategic places for the generated electricity to be accumulated. He further ensured that there would be adequate coal supply to support GENCO unit operations.
