104 Indian Migrants Returned Home After U.S. Deportation
A special flight from the United States brought back 104 Indian nationals to their home country. They were arriving in Amritsar under devastating circumstances-having reached America with promises of all things well but being taken back as illegal immigrants. Most had left India to ensure enough care for their families, but on reaching there, they found themselves under severe hardship and uncertainty. As they return, the harrowing tales of deception and survival of these individuals are coming to light.
Harvinder Singh's Harrowing Experience: Duped and Left in Lurch
Tahli village in Hoshiarpur, Punjab, was the native place of Harvinder Singh. He had paid Rs. 42 lakh to an agent promising a U.S. work visa. When he did not receive the visa, Singh took the perilous route from Delhi to Qatar, and then to Brazil, before he finally tried to enter the United States. He described his ordeal, saying, "They told us we would catch a flight from Peru if we reached Brazil. But no such arrangements existed. We were taken by taxi to Colombia and Panama, told we'd board a ship, but that too was false. We traveled illegally for two days, crossed mountains, and were crammed into a small boat heading for the Mexican border. After four hours, the boat capsized, killing one person. Another died in the Panama jungle."
Singh's story reflects the immense risks migrants face, only to return home with shattered dreams and lost savings.
Sukhpal Singh's Struggle: A Journey Through Death and Darkness
Sukhpal Singh from Darapur village faced similar hardships. His journey included 15 hours at sea and a grueling 45-kilometer trek through mountains. He added, "If a person got injured, then there was no one to assist him. Death was the alternative. We saw dead bodies along the way. Just as we were about to cross the Mexican border, a man from Jalandhar was caught, and our journey ended. We were locked in dark rooms for 14 days; we didn't even see the sunlight. Thousands of Punjabi youths and children were also there with us, all under the same circumstances. I appeal to people not to resort to illegal immigration.
