Tron 3: Ares will be the American upcoming science fiction action film that is a stand-alone sequel to Tron: Legacy from back in 2010. The third movie in the Tron series, the picture is produced by Walt Disney Pictures, and it was directed by Joachim Rønning. The screenplay was written by Jesse Wigutow and Jack Thorne. The movie cast includes Jared Leto, Greta Lee, Evan Peters, Hasan Minhaj, Jodie Turner-Smith, Arturo Castro, Cameron Monaghan, Gillian Anderson and Sarah Desjardins; Jeff Bridges would reprise the role he previously played in Tron: Legacy.
Development for a sequel for Tron: Legacy started last October 2010 by creator Steven Lisberger. Plans took a turn since the franchise is shifting towards being a reboot, not a sequel, in March 2017. Leto would play the role of an entirely new character. He was replaced by the director Garth Davis back in August 2020 when Wigutow was penning down the draft of the script. This was January 2023. A month later, Rønning took over the position of Davis. Production was supposed to commence as early as August 2023. However, the strikes of the 2023 Writers Guild of America and SAG-AFTRA did not allow that. The filming started in January 2024. It wrapped up in May. By August, Nine Inch Nails was writing the score.
'Tron 3: Ares' is set to release in the United States by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures on 10 October 2025.
