The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Tuesday stated that new ₹50 notes with the signature of the current RBI Governor, Sanjay Malhotra, will be introduced in the near future. The notes will be under the Mahatma Gandhi series.
Most ₹50 notes currently in circulation carry the signature of the former RBI Governor, Shaktikanta Das. Sanjay Malhotra became RBI Governor in December last year. In a notice on Wednesday, the RBI stated the new ₹50 notes will be issued in the near future but the old ones with the signature of Shaktikanta Das will also be acceptable and will continue to be in circulation.
