Trump-Musk: Trump Sues 'X'; Musk Will Have To Pay Rs. 86 Crore

No secret was made of Donald Trump's Twitter, Instagram, and X (formerly Twitter) accounts being suspended following the attack on the Capitol four years ago. Trump responded by suing the companies. With Trump's return to the White House, the companies are now reported to settle the suits. According to a series of media reports, X (formerly Twitter) settled the suit with Trump for $10 million (or Rs. 86 crore).

Social Media Ban and Legal Disputes

Donald Trump's Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and Instagram accounts were suspended after the 2021 Capitol riots. The accounts were restored in 2023. Even after restoration, Trump had already taken the tech giants to court. According to recent news reports, some of the companies are settling. Meta, for instance, settled at $25 million, according to reports. Likewise, X is also said to be settling with Trump. Trump's attorneys and X have not, however, formalized the settlement.

Musk's Support of Trump and Government Contribution

Elon Musk has also publicly endorsed Trump in recent presidential elections to the point of actively campaigning for Trump. Trump proceeded to later appoint Musk to a high-profile position in his administration. Musk has been tasked with leading the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), a department charged with coming up with overall reforms that would work towards keeping wasteful government spending at bay. Musk's experience in the Trump administration has been in the dock, however, with others accusing him of wielding too much power. Trump has, however, brushed off the allegations.
