Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk has said that some federal agencies in the US government must be eliminated. Speaking to the World Government Summit in Dubai remotely on Thursday, Musk reaffirmed that unless issues are eliminated at their root, they will increase exponentially.
Musk Criticizes US Federal Agencies
Musk mentioned agencies like USAID and the National Endowment for Democracy, questioning if they were fulfilling their role to promote democracy. He said that during the Trump administration, the US did not interfere with the affairs of other nations. However, he mentioned past instances where the US exerted pressure on global matters.
He also spoke about policy changes under the Trump administration, saying that diversity, equality, and inclusion programs had been terminated.
Grok-3 AI and Dubai Loop Updates
Musk also provided an update on Grok-3, an AI chatbot developed by X (formerly Twitter), saying that it will be out in two weeks. He said it was "kind of scary." He also made a comment about his company The Boring Company's plans to develop a 'Dubai Loop', a futuristic transportation system.
Impact on the US Government Workforce
The summit addressed the growing grip of Trump's administration on federal agencies, particularly under the Department of Government Efficiency, where Musk plays a large role. Reports indicate that about 75,000 US government employees are to quit after they accepted buyout offers from the Trump administration. Offers have been extended to a total of 2.3 million federal employees, as part of plans to reduce the government workforce.
Besides, reports indicate that the Trump administration will reduce government employment up to 70% in some agencies. Musk, in charge of heading the administration of government reductions, stated that federal budgets can be reduced by close to $1 trillion.
