Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of not pitting AI technology. In a video shared on X (formerly Twitter), he discussed the drone technology and how it can be utilized in the industry and cited that a robust industrial foundation would be the crucial propagator of the technological revolution.
Rahul Gandhi’s Criticism
He asked how drones are being used in wars today, the technology they use based on batteries, motors, and optics as well as their communication abilities on the battlefield which is impossible otherwise. He made the point that drones are more than just a product of a mechanical genius—a firm industry sustains them which could also be looked at as a part of the agile industrial socio-economic system.
"Unfortunately, Prime Minister Modi fails to grasp this reality. While he delivers speeches on AI using a teleprompter, our competing nations are developing cutting-edge technology and making significant advancements. To create breakthrough innovations, we need a strong foundation—not just empty words," he said.
Call for a Clear Strategy
He pointed out that U.S. could pair up with India to develop the desired drone technology, like China does, and use that fact as a motivation to put forward a clear policy of technology and pick its leader. He revealed that the country has great engineering but lacks industrial vision to be able to create cutting-edge technology.
"Along with job creation for our youth, India needs strong industrial expertise to move forward," he added.
Modi’s Stance on AI
Conversely, PM Modi was the co-chair with President Emmanuel Macron during the AI Action Summit that took place in France. It was then that Modi was unsure of AI applications causing job losses and hence said:
"History shows that technology does not eliminate jobs; rather, it transforms them, creating new employment opportunities."
