Kumbh Mela Nears Conclusion: Akhilesh Yadav Urges UP Government To Extend Duration

Despite the fact that more than 50 crore people have already taken Ganga's holy bath, over 500 lakhs of people are expected to take a dip in the river by February 26 when Kumbha Mela ends. There are 11 days only to go, during which the expected number of attendees is unlikely to be reduced.

Unprecedented Devotee Rush

  • The roads and trains have become choked with devotees that are coming in big numbers.
  • There are reports that a 350 km lengthy line of vehicles had come into existence.
  • Due to extreme crowding, the Prayagraj Sangam railway station had to be temporarily closed.

Akhilesh Yadav's Appeal to Extend Kumbh Mela

Amid the huge crowds, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav has requested that the government of Uttar Pradesh increase the duration of the festival and thus makes the following statement:

"Earlier, Kumbh Mela used to last for 75 days. Now, the duration is shorter. Many people wish to visit, but they are unable to. The government should increase the duration to accommodate everyone."

Record-Breaking Attendance

  • The Maha Kumbh Mela, which occurs only once every 12 years, began on the 13th of January and was supposed to draw in between 40-45 crores of latest visitors. Nonetheless, the actual turnout has surpassed projections.
  • 8 crore people participated in the holy bath on the Mauni Amavasya day (January 29) alone.
  • On average, 1.5 crore devotees arrive in the temple to bathe daily from different parts of the world.

UP Government's Response

Moreover, the UP government underscored the astounding number of participants and said that the crowd size is more than the sum of the population of all countries except for India and China. The total number is more than that of the population of the USA, Russia, Indonesia, Brazil, Pakistan, and Bangladesh together.
