The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has won a landslide victory in the Delhi Assembly election, fulfilling a 26-year-old dream. As the party will form the new government, the suspense over the next Chief Minister will probably end today. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be present at a make-or-break meeting in the BJP headquarters to finalize the CM selection, party sources added.
Legislative Party Meeting Scheduled for Today
There will be a BJP legislature party meeting at 6:15 PM today where the new Chief Minister and the cabinet ministers will be selected. The oath-taking ceremony will be held on Thursday at 11 AM in Ramlila Maidan. BJP has organized a grand function where PM Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena, Union ministers, and Chief Ministers of other states are likely to attend.
The event will also have cultural performances by stars, followed by the swearing-in ceremony. According to reports, more than 200 MLAs, MPs, BJP allies, 50 film stars, industrialists, and foreign envoys will be present at the event.
Who Will Be the Next Delhi CM?
While BJP has won a record electoral triumph on February 8, the party is yet to finalize its CM candidate. Parvesh Verma, son of ex-Delhi CM Sahib Singh Verma, is at present the hot favorite for the job. He has just beaten AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal in the election.
Other names in the race include:
- Satish Upadhyay
- Vijender Gupta
- Ashish Sood
- Pawan Sharma
Party sources say that BJP can also consider an MLA with a Purvanchal origin, a Sikh leader, or a woman for the Chief Ministerial position.
The decision will be taken today in the final meeting, which is a milestone in the politics of Delhi.
