Mexico Stands Firm Against Trump's Threats: President Claudia Sheinbaum

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has assured that she is not afraid of U.S. President Donald Trump's threats, such as tariffs, deportation of immigrants, and military intervention. In answering a journalist's question at a press conference—"Are you afraid of Trump's warnings?"—Sheinbaum gave a clear reply that she is not afraid.

Sheinbaum Resists Trump's Threats

Sheinbaum emphasized that Mexico will not tolerate any action that jeopardizes its sovereignty. She reaffirmed her confidence in the support of the people of Mexico and promised to do all that is needed to defend the national interests. Trump's 25% tariff on Mexican imports has been delayed for a month, and the officials of the two countries are to sit in Washington this week to restart the negotiations.

Trump's Tariff Threats and Accusations

Trump has also accused Mexico and Canada of not preventing the smuggling of fentanyl as well as illegal entry into the United States. As punishment, he initially signed an executive order that imposed a 25% tariff on goods from the countries. Afterwards, when the countries retaliated, stating that they were going to impose tariffs on imports from the United States, Trump suspended the imposition for a month.

Mexico's Response: Troops Deployed to Border

Mexico has deployed 10,000 soldiers on the northern border to stop the smuggling of fentanyl and illegal crossing as a move against Trump's grievances. Trump reiterated his stance by initiating counter-tariffs amid the above measures. The future actions of the two nations will rely on the coming diplomatic negotiations in Washington.
