Prithviraj Sukumaran's action-thriller L2: Empuraan, starring Mohanlal in the lead, has been a recent bone of contention. The movie, which has been a huge hit at the box office, has also seen several controversies. One among them was concerning allegations that AI has been utilized to depict Mohanlal's childhood part. Prithviraj Sukumaran has now responded to such speculations.
Clarification of AI Utilization in the Movie
In L2: Empuraan, Mohanlal played the character of Stephen Gattupalli. Social media gossip suggested that AI technology was utilized to recreate Mohanlal as his younger self in certain scenes. However, director Prithviraj clarified that such rumors were not true. He claimed that it was none other than Mohanlal's son, Pranav Mohanlal, who impersonated the young character instead. A poster was also released as confirmation.
Censor Board's Modifications and Box Office Hits
In the midst of the controversy, the crew of the film made some modifications and re-submitted it to the censor board. Therefore, the board directed 24 cuts, calling for modifications such as muting certain dialogues, renaming, and modifying or removing some visuals.
Despite all these setbacks, L2: Empuraan continues to run big at the box office. The film has already breezed past ₹200 crores and is set to cross ₹250 crores by the weekend. Additionally, it has become the highest-grossing Indian film overseas in 2024.
