Shaktikanta Das Named As Principal Secretary-2 To Prime Minister Modi

Ex-RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das has been made Principal Secretary-2 to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Cabinet Committee on Appointments has approved that he will occupy the position for Modi's term of office or till further orders. Currently, retired IAS officer PK Mishra of the Gujarat cadre is serving as Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister.

Shaktikanta Das's Diverse Government Career

A retired IAS officer from the 1980 batch, Shaktikanta Das served as RBI Governor for six years until December 2018. He was a senior officer in the Revenue as well as the Economic Affairs departments before being named RBI Governor. After retirement, he was a member of the 15th Finance Commission as well as a G20 Sherpa.

With over four decades of public governance experience, Das has been a key player in landmark budgetary reforms like demonetization and the implementation of GST. The elevation to Principal Secretary-2 is a testament to his continued influence on India's financial and administrative system.
