'Moana' is an upcoming American musical action adventure fantasy film directed by Thomas Kail from a screenplay by Jared Bush and Dana Ledoux Miller, and produced by Dwayne Johnson, Hiram and Dany Garcia, and Beau Flynn. The movie is a live-action remake of Disney's 2016 animated movie Moana, and the third film in the Moana series. It features Catherine Lagaʻaia in her debut as Moana and Johnson reprising the role of Maui from the animated movies.
Production of a live-action Moana movie was greenlit by Johnson in April 2023. Kail was brought in as director in May of that year and Lagaʻaia was cast in the lead role in June 2024, joined by the key supporting cast. Principal photography took place in Atlanta and Hawaii during July to November 2024.
'Moana' is due for release in the United States and Canada by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures on 10th July 2026.
