Former U.S. President Donald Trump has expressed confidence in handling Russia, stating that negotiations with Moscow are easier compared to Ukraine. Speaking at a White House press conference on Friday, he highlighted his perspective on the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine.
Trump’s Take on Russia and Ukraine
Trump emphasized that while Ukraine lacks significant power, dealing with its leadership is more challenging than negotiating with Russia. "Ukraine does not have much power, but dealing with them is very difficult. On the other hand, dealing with Russia is very easy," he stated. He also reaffirmed his confidence in Russian President Vladimir Putin, claiming that they share a good relationship and that Putin is willing to end the war.
Trump also acknowledged the reasons behind Moscow’s nighttime attacks on Kyiv, suggesting that Putin is acting in a way that any leader in his position would. However, he pointed out that Ukraine is demanding security guarantees before agreeing to a peace deal, which could impact America’s role in ceasefire negotiations.
Efforts for Peace Talks
As part of efforts to ease tensions, Trump has been working toward a resolution between Russia and Ukraine. He recently met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the White House to discuss possible peace negotiations. Their discussion reportedly became a global topic, as disagreements between the two leaders surfaced.
Following the meeting, Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine is open to dialogue and aims to collaborate with the U.S. on a strong peace agreement. Meanwhile, Trump hinted at imposing banking sanctions and tariffs on Moscow in response to Russia’s intensified attacks on Ukraine.
