Harry Brook, England's middle-order batsman, has withdrawn from the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 for national team preparations.
Delhi Capitals Face Another Setback
Brook was bought by Delhi Capitals for INR 6.25 Crore in the November mega auction. This is the second year in a row that Brook has pulled out of the tournament, and he now risks being banned from the IPL in future seasons.
IPL's New Rule Could Lead to a Ban
According to the new IPL regulation, any player who signs up for the auction, is selected, and then withdraws prior to the commencement of the season—without a valid medical reason—will be suspended from the league and subsequent auctions for two years.
Brook's Statement on His Withdrawal
In a statement posted on his social media pages, Brook had this to say:
"It's a very important time for English cricket, and I'd like to commit totally to preparing myself for the new series. For that, though, I want some time off after the busiest time in my career so far."
Admitting that his choice may be unpopular with many, he also said:
"I realize not everyone will get it, and I don't anticipate they will, but I have to do what I feel is right, and representing my country is still my priority and focus."
Previous IPL Stint and Withdrawals
Brook had earlier withdrawn from Delhi Capitals' 2024 season because of a bereavement. To date, his sole IPL outing was in 2023 with Sunrisers Hyderabad.
