The Mumbai Indians' captain for the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) season is Hardik Pandya, who was appointed on Friday. With this, Rohit Sharma's ten-year career as MI captain came to an end. Rohit guided the team to five IPL titles while serving as captain. In a stunning switch from the Gujarat Titans, Pandya rejoined the MI squad. The all-around player led GT to victory with the team in 2022 and did it for the previous two seasons.

Pandya amassed 833 runs at an average of 37.86 and a strike rate of over 133 in 31 games for GT in 2022–2023; he also recorded six half-centuries and a career-high score of 87*. Along with taking 11 wickets for the squad, he had a career high of 3/17.
Pandya participated in 92 MI games between 2015 and 2021, amassing 1,476 runs at an average of 27.33 and a strike rate of over 153, including four half-centuries and a career-high score of 91. In addition, he claimed 42 wickets for the squad, with a 3/20 bowling average at his best.
