Live weather updates for Chennai: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts that Kerala and Tamil Nadu will see heavy to extremely severe rainfall during the next two to three days. IMD Chennai reports that the districts of Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Madurai, Mayiladuthurai, Tenkasi, Virudhunagar, and Karaikal area in Tamil Nadu are also at risk of heavy to very heavy rain in one or two locations. The districts of Toothukudi, Ramanathapuram, Pudukkottai, and Sivaganga are among those in the state.
A few districts in south Tamil Nadu experienced flooding and waterlogging on Sunday due to heavy rainfall.

Heavy rains that devastated the districts of Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, and Tenkasi submerged rice fields, highways, bridges, and residential colonies under several feet of water in numerous parts of southern Tamil Nadu. It had never rained so much in recent memory.
Reporters were told by Chief Secretary Shiv Das Meena on Monday that the Army, Navy, and Air Force had been requested to assist due to the unusually high rainfall and flooding. In addition, he stated that 84 boats had been dispatched to aid in rescue and relief operations.
The administration has declared December 18 to be a public holiday in each of the four districts.
