Shreyas Iyer was a key player in Team India's victory in the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy. His fate within the team was uncertain a couple of years ago, but he has now established himself as a vital middle-order batsman.

Iyer's contributions were:

  • 56 runs against Pakistan
  • 79 runs against New Zealand in the league stage
  • 45 runs in the semi-final against Australia
  • 48 runs in the final, contributing to the title

Iyer's career was not without hurdles despite these remarkable performances.

Career Struggles and Comeback

Following the 2023 World Cup, Shreyas Iyer was non-existent from the Indian cricket team due to his poor conduct and so lost his central contract. All the same, he manage this fruition by doing well in domestic cricket and through re-entering his place in the national squad.

Iyer disclosed that just a handful of people were in contact with him during his tough time. He thanked Praveen Amre, Abhishek Nair, and his coach Sagar for being with him.

Lack of Recognition After IPL Win

Shreyas Iyer guided Kolkata Knight Riders to victory in the 2024 season of IPL. Though he won, he did not feel that he got the right honours for his work.

"At my lowest point, very few people reached out to me. I focused entirely on winning the IPL title, and by God's grace, I achieved it. However, I felt I didn’t get the recognition I deserved. Regardless, I believe in staying honest, working hard, and moving forward without dwelling on others' opinions," Iyer said.

Shreyas Iyer’s New IPL Chapter with Punjab Kings

Even though he led Kolkata Knight Riders to victory, the franchise didn't sign him back. During the mega auction, Punjab Kings signed him for Rs 26.75 crore and appointed him as captain for the next season recently.
