Virat Kohli Supports Family Presence On Cricket Tours For Player Well-being

Top cricketer Virat Kohli stressed the necessity of the presence of family members with players during tours. Kohli stated that it is better to stay with family than to spend time alone in a hotel room at difficult times of a cricket tour.

After India's 1-3 defeat against Australia, the BCCI made a change in its family presence guidelines. According to the new regulations, families can accompany players for a maximum of two weeks on tours of more than 45 days and for a week on shorter tours.

In the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, the families of Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja, and Mohammed Shami joined them, though not in the players' hotel. The players arranged for their stays themselves.

Kohli emphasized the importance of the presence of his family, saying, "It brings peace to spend time with my family after a difficult match. I don't think people realize how important it is. I'd rather be with my family than lonely and annoyed in my room. Being with them relaxes me and keeps me happy."

Kohli also voiced frustration about public discussions involving cricketers’ families, asserting that every player desires to stay close to their loved ones.

Kohli’s Post-Retirement Plans

When asked about his plans after retirement, Kohli said that traveling would be a definite priority. He confessed that he does not know what his specific plans are but is eager to travel to new destinations. Kohli had already disclosed before that he would keep a low profile after retirement.

Fitness and Family Issues

Famous for his exemplary fitness, Kohli confessed that getting his mother convinced about his health is still an issue.

"My mother is always concerned about my nutrition and feels I look weak because I don't eat parathas. Even if I explain to her that foreign cricketers ask me about my fitness regimen, she continues to worry. It's like a battle to convince her that I'm fine," Kohli said.
