Off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin will once again join the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) squad after a long interval. This would be Ashwin's first IPL season after retirement from international cricket. On that note, Ashwin narrated an interesting episode with former Team India skipper MS Dhoni.
He opened up that though Dhoni initially missed keeping a promise, later on, he surprised Ashwin with a sweet gesture.
Dhoni's Sweet Gesture to Ashwin
In a special BCCI ceremony organized to celebrate Ashwin's 100th Test, the cricketer anticipated MS Dhoni presenting him with a memorable token.
"The game was in Dharamsala, and it was my 100th Test. I thought Dhoni would give me the memento, and I even thought that could be my last game. But Dhoni didn't show up for that Test. But now, I never thought he would bring me back to CSK and give me such a great gift. Thank you, MS Dhoni! I'm here because of you," Ashwin said.
He further said, "I've played a lot of cricket and reached many milestones. But now, I just want to put all that aside and enjoy the game."
Fierce Competition in the CSK Team
The fight for a place in CSK's final playing XI is likely to be fierce. With Ravindra Jadeja already spearheading the spin attack, Ashwin's addition would further bolster the team.
Also, having the talented Afghan spinner Noor Ahmad creates questions regarding team choice. CSK also has Rachin Ravindra, an all-rounder who can open the innings as well as chip in with the ball. But with the availability of big-hitters like Devon Conway, Rachin can end up playing in the middle order rather than at the top.
