MF Husain's Painting Creates Record, Sold For ₹118 Crore At Auction

A painting by Indian master artist MF Husain has created a record in the art world. Christie's auction house recently sold Husain's painting 'Untitled (Gram Yatra)' for $13.8 million (₹118 crore) at an auction in New York, which is the most costly painting in the history of modern Indian art.

New Benchmark in Indian Art Auctions

Earlier, the costliest Indian art was Amrita Sher-Gil's 'The Story Teller' of 1937, which was sold for ₹61.8 crore at an auction in 2023. But MF Husain's new masterpiece has broken that record, selling for almost twice that amount.

About 'Gram Yatra'

  • 'Gram Yatra' is a single canvas painting with 13 paintings.
  • The painting is a reflection of Husain's distinct style, evoking aspects of rural India.
  • Christie's agents were thrilled at being a part of this milestone sale.
