Indian Embassy Keeping Tabs on Developments Following Thailand Earthquake

A strong earthquake hit several parts of Thailand, including the country's capital, Bangkok, that left the Indian Embassy springing into action. The embassy informed that it was in close communication with local government agencies to find out about the situation. Nothing has been heard of any Indians being harmed yet.

To help Indians in distress, the embassy has established a helpline number: +66 618819218. It has requested Indian citizens residing in Thailand to call this number in the event of an emergency. The Indian Embassy in Bangkok also tweeted on 'X' verifying that all the members of the consulate in Chiang Mai city are safe.

Casualties and Damage in Thailand and Myanmar

Reports state that a series of earthquakes in minutes led to devastation across both Myanmar and Thailand. In Myanmar, 55 individuals lost their lives, while over 200 people were injured. Severe damage also was experienced in Thailand, with four reported deaths and 81 people reported missing. Over 50 people also were injured.

Since the quake was so powerful, officials expect the number of dead and total destruction to increase. Rescue efforts are continuing, with rescue teams conducting search and rescue for the missing and providing aid to the survivors.
