Yashaswi Jaiswal Tells Why
Yashasvi Jaiswal recently stepped down from the Mumbai cricket side for personal reasons, a step that caught everyone in the cricketing world off guard. Impressing in local cricket, he got a call to Team India. Jaiswal has now explained his action, saying he got an alluring offer to play for Goa. He reaffirmed that he is still keen on playing for domestic cricket when he is not representing the nation.
"It was a difficult choice. Mumbai made me the cricketer I am now. I will always thank the Mumbai Cricket Association. But Goa presented me with a leadership opportunity, which was thrilling. My first love is Team India, but when I am not playing for the country, I will play for Goa. I will play the entire domestic season and give every opportunity my best shot," Jaiswal clarified.
Suryakumar Yadav Dismisses Speculation
There were speculations that Suryakumar Yadav might follow Jaiswal’s path and leave Mumbai. However, he strongly denied these rumors.
"Is the person writing these articles a scriptwriter or a journalist? From now on, I’ll stop watching comedy movies and start reading these articles instead. These reports are baseless," Suryakumar posted on social media.
Jaiswal’s Last Appearance for Mumbai
Jaiswal last played for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy match against Jammu and Kashmir from January 23-25. The BCCI has made it mandatory for Indian cricketers to participate in domestic matches, and in that game, Jaiswal scored 4 and 26 runs in Mumbai’s loss.
Goa Cricket Association Secretary Shamba Desai confirmed Jaiswal's switch. "Yashasvi wishes to play for Goa, and we welcome him. He will join us from next season and can even lead us when not with the Indian team," he said.
Interestingly, Arjun Tendulkar and Siddhesh Lad also quit Mumbai to join Goa prior to the 2022-23 domestic season.
