IPL 2025: Siraj's 'Fire' Spreads Beyond RCB - Sehwag's Major Takeaways

Mohammed Siraj, formerly of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), is currently playing for Gujarat in the IPL 2025. In his recent game against his former team, he performed a brilliant spell, taking three wickets (3/19) and contributing to Gujarat's win. His bowling performance has been widely appreciated, with former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag and New Zealand's Kane Williamson congratulating him.

Sehwag: Siraj's Aggression Is Driven by National Team Snub

Virender Sehwag recognized Siraj's aggressive new-ball bowling and added that his aggression is not only aimed at opponents but also driven by his being left out of the national team.

Siraj was superb with the new ball at the Chinnaswamy Stadium (RCB vs GT). He gave only 13 runs in his initial three overs and might have gotten another wicket if he had bowled one more. His ball-swelling skills were great, and he got plenty of help from the pitch," Sehwag stated.

The ex-cricket player asserted that Siraj's current form is a sign of his disappointment at being omitted from the Champions Trophy team.

Now we see a passionate Siraj—not only against RCB. His being left out must have pained him. This kind of aggression is what we can expect from an inexperienced pacer. It's like he's telling them, 'You left me out? See my power.' I hope he continues with this fire until he regains a place in the Indian team."

Kane Williamson Hails Siraj's Leadership

New Zealand's Kane Williamson also praised Siraj's pace and ability to take wickets, particularly at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, a ground which the bowler is familiar with.

"Siraj's rhythm and precision make it difficult for the batsman to face him. His control over the Chinnaswamy surface is reflected in his bowling. He set the tone from the start, producing some great deliveries that were hard to play. His performance made him a worthy recipient of the Player of the Match award."

Williamson also noted Jos Buttler's great batting form but attributed Gujarat's success to Siraj, especially through his early strikes.

With IPL 2025 in full flow, Siraj's comeback can give him a boost to make a national team return, particularly if he keeps churning out match-winning performances.
